PowWow Princess 2008 -2009
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe has a new Pow Wow Princess and she is Talia Landry. The 16 year old is easily one of the youngest royals to be selected by an elders panel, but her youth in no way reflects her ambitious agenda for her 2008-2009 reign. Talia is extremely active at Mashpee High School as a scholar and an athlete. She is a member of the varsity cheerleading and basketball teams. She also runs track and is a gymnast. She has been involved in these activities since middle school. Talia is enrolled in honors courses and is enrolled in college preparatory course work for Physics. Talia says right now she is interested in pursuing a college career with a major in English or broadcast journalism. Our Pow Wow Princess works closely with young children and has worn the costume of Clifford and Snowy the Bear at Kenneth C. Coombs School for events there. She has also consistently done a number of community projects for 5th, 6th and 7th graders. Talia has a number of fundraising projects on her agenda, including a “Little Miss Wampanoag Princess“ pageant for the many beautiful little girls in our Tribe. She is also looking into initiating a brain bowl competition to encourage Tribal youth to continue to excel academically. Talia understands the importance of serving as a role model to youth and as one of many ambassadors for the Mashpee Wampanoag Nation. She will be representing us at Pow Wows and various public functions across the country. She is the daughter of David and Diane Johnson Landry.
