Mashpee Wampanoag Pow Wow princess 2009-2010 is Chelsie "Dancing Blanket" Miranda. Chelsie is the granddaughter of the late Tribal elder Edgar Tobey Sr., and the daughter of Laura Tobey Miranda and Warren Miranda. Chelsie is a champion Jingle dress dancer and has been dancing since she could walk. She is a founding member of our Tribal Youth COUNCIL and is very active in its functions. This Fall Chelsie will be a senior at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. Chelsie is not only active in tribal events she is also excels in academics and athletics. She is a member of the National Honors Society, the KEY Club, and is frequently on the Honor Roll. She is the Captain of her varsity D-Y field hockey team. A team member on the D-Y varsity basketball team and the team manager of the D-Y softball team. She also enjoys helping her community and a part of habitat for humanity a group in which she helped build homes for those less fortunate. She volunteered her time at a preschool for several years. Upon graduation from high school Chelsie plans to attend a university and major in social science and minor in business. She intends to use her degrees to open up her own adoption agency in the future. As Princess Chelsie has a lot of plans on her agenda. She plans on fully representing our tribe by traveling to as many powwows socials and other events as possible. More importantly she plans to bring our Wampanoag culture and traditions back as our top priority. She plans to do this by encouraging education and the passing on of our culture by erasing the gap between our elders and our youth. In doing so our traditions and culture can never be lost.
