A lifelong resident of Mashpee, and educated in the public schools, Shawn Hendricks is the descendent of a prominent Tribal family. He has a diverse array of traditional and modern life experiences that have guided him in his leadership role. A fisherman, like his ancestors, he also established a Karate school. With a Bachelor of Arts in Community Planning he is able to help build the new Tribal government, plan youth programs and continue to be the source of information on many cultural projects. The completed renovation of the Mashpee Wampanoag Museum was Pocknett's effort and he is now overseeing the restoration of the Old Indian Church (built in 1684). Pocknett has been a fixture at Pow Wows for decades and within the National Indian Education Association, the Boston Indian Council and the Native American Center of Boston.
