Dear Tribal Family,
I write with excellent news on our progress toward creating jobs and economic development through a Mashpee Wampanoag destination resort casino in Taunton, MA. I am proud to announce that the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the City of Taunton have negotiated an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) for the development and operation of our destination resort casino in Taunton.
The IGA governs the relationship between our tribe and the City, including how we will communicate, consult with each other, and move forward on this incredible opportunity for our people. The IGA also spells out how the Tribe will mitigate the impacts of the resort on traffic, public safety, water, sewer, and schools. On Wednesday, May 16th, Tribal Council voted 8-2 approving a resolution giving me the authority to sign this agreement on the Tribe’s behalf.
I look forward to discussing this IGA as well as the other important milestones we are completing at our General Membership Meeting this Sunday, May 20th, at 2pm at Mashpee High school. In the meantime, please see additional details about the IGA here.
With this IGA, we have crossed a major hurdle on our path toward true economic self-sufficiency for our Tribe. There are many additional hurdles to cross, but we have great momentum and good medicine on our side!
